🔨 Women in Construction Week 2026
🌟 W.I.C. Leader Spotlight: Chelsey Rios
As part of our Women in Construction Week 2026 celebration, we are proud to recognize Chelsey Rios for her leadership and dedication to the construction industry in Humboldt County.
Chelsey has been with McCullough Construction for over 10 years. She began her career as an assistant and, through steady growth and increasing responsibility, advanced into her current role as Project Manager. Over the past decade, she has developed alongside the company, taking on expanded leadership with each project.
Her path into construction was not traditional. While she completed Construction Management coursework and earned industry certifications, she found that hands-on experience was the most meaningful form of education. By committing to continuous learning, asking thoughtful questions, and consistently applying herself to the work, she built the knowledge and confidence necessary to lead successfully.
Chelsey also credits the mentorship of Dena McCullough for encouraging her to pursue leadership opportunities and further develop her skills. The combination of professional guidance, persistence, and practical experience has shaped her career.
When asked what advice she would offer young women entering the field, Chelsey shared:
“Explore the industry and find what genuinely interests you. Construction has so many paths. Take a class, earn a certification, or shadow someone whose role inspires you. Invite someone in the field to coffee and ask questions. Most people are willing to share what they’ve learned.
Be willing to show up, work hard, and keep learning. Confidence grows through experience. And most importantly, remember that you belong here just as much as anyone else.”
Chelsey notes that construction has influenced not only her professional life, but her personal life as well — she met her husband through the industry. They will celebrate nine years of marriage in August and are raising two daughters together.
We are grateful for Chelsey’s leadership and the example she sets for the next generation of women in the trades.
